Elliot Goldner is a Professor in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University and a fully qualified psychiatrist with specific expertise in health services and health policy. He founded the Centre for Applied Research in Mental Health & Addiction (CARMHA), a research unit designed to provide research support to government ministries, health authorities and community agencies in their efforts to advance the quality of mental health and addiction services. He has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and various government reports and studies and is lead author of a textbook on mental health in Canada. He directed a national research training program, entitled ‘Research in Addiction & Mental Health Policy & Services’, funded by CIHR in order to train scientists to conduct research to advance the healthcare system’s approach to mental illness and addiction. He has served as the Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Mental Health Commission of Canada and Scientific Lead of the Knowledge Exchange Centre.
