The trade conflict between China and the United States is coming to a head: after the United States further increased the tariffs to Chinese products, the People’s Republic is now also lifting the counter -tariffs – to 84 percent.
China follows up in the customs dispute with the USA: As the State Council’s customs commission announced, further import duties are charged to all US goods in the amount of 50 percent. From April 10, new additional tariffs of 84 percent would apply to all US goods.
Against China, 34 percent additional tariffs were originally supposed to apply. After the People’s Republic also reacted with a surcharge of 34 percent, the US government under President Donald Trump increased the tariffs to Chinese to 104 percent. An ultimatum made by Trump had previously passed China.
China misses respect
Previously, the Foreign Ministry in Beijing had signaled that there was a lack of a basis for negotiations in the trade dispute. “If the United States really wants to solve the problems through dialogue and negotiations, you should take an attitude of equality, respect and mutual use,” said Ministry spokesman Lin Jian. “If the United States insists on further tightening its economic and trade restrictions, China has the firm will and sufficient means to take the necessary countermeasures and to fight to the end.”
The Ministry of Commerce also pointed out that the US government only takes physical goods into account when calculating the trade deficit. If one deals with services and branches of US companies in China, the economic exchange between the two countries is “roughly balanced”.
“The history and the facts have proven that the increase in tariffs by the United States will not solve their own problems,” says the declaration of the Ministry of Commerce. “Instead, it will trigger strong fluctuations on the financial markets, increase inflation pressure in the United States, weaken the US industrial basis and increase the risk of recession in the US economy.”
Streit started shortly after the second took office
Shortly after the beginning of his second term, Trump initially imposed an additional inch of ten percent on imports from China and justified this with the role of the country in the production of the painkillers Fentanyl. Among other things, Trump accuses China not to take enough against the drug of the drug.
Trump then doubled the planned customs of ten percent at the end of February. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce then declared that if the USA continued, China would take all the necessary countermeasures to defend its legitimate rights and interests. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the problems with fentanyl a “pretext” for additional tariffs.
Dispute also about Tiktok
There is also a dispute between the United States and China. The Chinese app’s US branch must either be closed or sold according to a US law.
The US government had apparently already negotiated a sale of Tikok in the United States to US owners. Trump himself indicated that. However, the business burst when Trump announced customs increases last week. As a result, representatives of the Chinese Tikok mother Bytedance said that China would no longer approve the business as long as there are no negotiations on trade and tariffs.
