Rita Araújo holds a master in Communication and she is currently a PhD researcher fellow with the Portuguese Science and Technology Agency, working at Communication and Society Research Center at University of Minho (Portugal). Her research focuses on the media coverage of health in the Portuguese press, and she aims at building on effective and accurate health information on two levels: between news sources and journalists, and between journalists and their public.
She was a researcher within the Portuguese team of Lifelong Learning Program HeaRT — Health Reporting Training Project (2010-3675 HeaRT), financed by the European Commission. This project’s main goal was to understand the state of the art of Health Journalism in Europe and to promote training activities for health reporters. She was also a researcher with a fellowship from the Portuguese Science and Technology Agency, within the project Disease in the News (PTDC/CCI-COM/103886/2008), which intended to map the field of Health Communication in Portugal.
She is author and co-author of several published papers and has presented her research both in national and international journals and conferences.
