The US government has now also imposed tariffs on products that contain aluminum or steel. More than 400 new products are affected – from motorcycles to window frames to railway wagons.
The US government under President Donald Trump has occupied hundreds of additional products with steel and aluminum tariffs. In the 407 shopping categories, tariffs of 50 percent have been included in the amount of 50 percent. This emerges from a corresponding message from the commercial register.
Among the products include motorcycles and mopeds, door and window frames, sports equipment, crane vehicles and railway wagons. Another 60 product groups would still be checked.
More effort for importers
For importers, the tariffs on the new product categories could mean a significant additional effort: In contrast to the previous tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, which generally apply to the industry, the new surcharge among the now announced product categories is aimed at the respective steel and aluminum share. It is unclear who has to determine the proportion – importers are usually responsible for the correct explanation of the customs authorities.
At the beginning of June, Trump screwed up the tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 50 percent. Before that, it was 25 percent. Recently, the US President for Stahl imports promised even higher rates to persuade companies to produce in the United States.
