US post wants to accept packages from China again

U-turn in the course of US customs policy: the US post withdraws its announcement that it can leave packages from China. The background is a special rule tipped by Trump.

The US-Post company now wants to bring packages from China and Hong Kong within the United States. The US Postal Service (USPS) announced this.

USPS work closely with the US COTTACE to implement new customs regulations and at the same time to hinder the delivery of packages as low as possible. Just a few hours earlier, USPS had declared that they were temporarily no longer accepting packages from the People’s Republic and Hong Kong.

Trump had tipped special rule

The background is that US President Donald Trump ended a loophole for shipments and the so-called “de-minimis” exception of import duties that previously enabled duty-free deliveries of packages with low value from China to the USA.

These rules allowed online retailers such as Temu and Shein, to send packages with a value of less than $ 800 duty-free to the United States. Trump had also imposed tariffs in a height of ten percent against goods from China, the People’s Republic reacted with countermeasures.
