According to a search on Nature Foodthe “sustainable weekly dose” of meat should not exceed 255 grams of pork or chicken, equal to about two slices. It is the quantity compatible with a healthy diet and with the ecological limits of our planet.
Red meats. In addition to this threshold, the environmental impact grows exponentially, especially with red meats (whose maximum share would be, alternatively, 98 grams per week). Highlighting cattle and sheep, in fact, means deforestrating, consuming soil, producing feed and introducing powerful greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrogen protoxide into the atmosphere.
Diet possible. The study, signed by a Technical University of Denmark team, has built a model that crosses 32 nutritional parameters with the main global ecological limits.
The result is a realistic menu that includes white meat, fish, eggs and cheeses in moderate quantities: a flexible food plan, suitable for many cultures and can be updated with technological progress.
