Chatgpt no longer only does the tasks instead of students: with the “study mode” function it turns into a professor of repetitions. Will it really work?
Chatgpt has tired of doing homework instead of students, now prefers to accompany them in learning as a professor of digital repetitions. With the new “study mode”, in fact, Openii’s chatbot turns into a teacher who helps to understand problems step by step, instead of limiting yourself to providing ready -made solutions.
Available for all users who access chatgpt with free plans, plus, pros and team (and soon also on ECt chatgpt), this function is designed to learn more consciously and critically: a change of approach that has become necessary given the millions of boys who already use chatgpt to study and the growing concerns in schools about the improper use of artificial intelligence. The challenge, therefore, is to ensure that the IA becomes a learning support tool, not a way to circumvent it.
Study method. The Studio mode was born from the collaboration between Openai and a group of pedagogists, scientists and educators, who have helped the IT technicians integrate behaviors into the chatbot that favor a deeper understanding. The interactions with the students have been structured in order to stimulate active participation, reduce the cognitive load and encourage “metacognition”, or the ability to reflect on one’s process of acquiring knowledge.
Users are guided with Socratic questions, suggestions and ideas of self -reflection, in a style based on dialogue that aims to strengthen the understanding of the concepts. Therefore, it is not a simple “explanation”, but of an interactive path in which Chatgpt modulates the responses on the level of competence and on the objectives of the student.
Checks and feedback. One of the most appreciated characteristics by the boys in the first tests was the ability of the study mode to transform each topic into a real learning laboratory. At the end of each explanation, the chatbot proposes quiz, open questions and interactive checks to find that the matter has been fully understood, not limiting itself to correcting the answers, but while providing targeted feedback to fill any gaps and strengthen the memorization.
This approach not only increases awareness of its level of preparation, but also helps to develop the ability to apply knowledge in new contexts. The study mode can be activated or deactivated at any time of the conversation, depending on your needs.
Educational. Openai announces that this mode is only the first step in a wider path to integrate artificial intelligence into the world of education.
Currently based on custom system instructions, the function will be perfected through users’ feedback and, in the future, it will be integrated directly into the main chatgpt models.
Among the developments already in the development phase there are more intuitive views for complex concepts, progress monitoring systems and a more push customization of interactions. Openi is collaborating with academic partners, including Stanford University, to study the impact of the AI on learning, in order to define the best educational practices with a clear goal: to make sure that the new IT tools do not become a shortcut to obtain answers, but an ally in the construction of new skills.
