The Blue Ghost probe of Firefly Aerospace officially concludes the 14 days of operations on the moon, recording precious scientific data for NASA.
The Blue Ghost lunar probe of the Firefly Aerospace Company successfully completed its first mission, spending over 14 days on the surface of the moon and recording more than 119 GB of Scientific data for NASA. It is the longest commercial mission on our satellite. The official conclusion of the mission was announced by the probe itself with this farewell post published a few hours ago on social media:
“Mission mode changed change, now in mode Monument.
Goodnight, friends. After exchanging our latest data,
I will remain on guard here, in the Mare crisis, to observe the continuous journey of humanity towards the stars.
Here I will survive your most powerful rivers, to the highest mountains and perhaps even to your own species How you know it today.
But it is extraordinary that a species can only be overcome by its own ingenuity.
Here lies Blue Ghost, testimony of the team that,
with the loving support of their families and friends,
built and operated this machine and its tools,
to push The ability and knowledge of humanity A small step further.
For ATTERA ATTRA!
With affection, Blue Ghost “
Mission budget: a success!
According to Firefly Aerospace, Blue Ghost managed to use all the 10 planned scientific tools. Among these, Lugre, who for the first time he traced GPS signals on the Moonsuggesting that in the future you could navigate the moon using terrestrial satellites. Another innovation is Lunar Planetvac, a system that collects and selects samples of regolite (lunar soil) using pressurized gases.
Of great scientific interest was also the robotic drill listerwhich explored the lunar subsoil up to about a meter, noting temperatures and heat flows from the lunar nucleus. In addition, the Lunar Magnetotelluric Sounder measured i Electrical and magnetic fields to study the internal composition of the moon.
He also showed us the eclipse from the moon
The mission culminated with an exceptional event: Blue Ghost managed to record a total solar eclipse seen from the moon, with the earth that blocked the sunan event never observed first by a commercial company (photo below). Information on the levitation of lunar dust at sunset was also collected, a phenomenon already hypothesized by the Astronauts Apollo. Firefly Aerospace now aims to repeat these missions annually, expanding exploration even to the hidden side of the moon, with new probes already in the preparation phase.
