Eyes: can myopia be correct (without an intervention)?

Eyes: can myopia be correct (without an intervention)?

By Dr. Kyle Muller

The progression of myopia can be slowed down, only if the defect is diagnosed since children. Regular eye visits are fundamental.

The eyes are our window on the world and we should take care of it since children. Instead, environment and lifestyle are jeopardizing the view since childhood: in the last trat the very young with myopia have increased by 50%; At this rate, in 2050 one person in two will be short -sighted.

The lifestyle also counts. Many elements connected to the lifestyle affect the ability to see from afar, as Paolo Vinciguerra, director of the Oculistic Center of the IRCCS Clinical Institute Humanitas and professor at the Humanitas University in Milan explains: «Myopia can be facilitated by the frequent close vision and by the lesser time passed outdoors, because in natural light, hormonal mechanisms are activated that unwind the sclera (the coating of the eye bulb, editor’s note). Even sleeping, little can help reduce the thickness, while rubbing the eyes often can facilitate the deformation of the cornea ».

Timely interventions. To recognize and manage any problems in time, for example with the new peripheral Defocus lenses that can slow down the progression of myopia, visits from the octo in childhood are essential: an unrelated visual defect can also lead to amblyopia or lazy eye – in which one eye sees much less well than the other – defect that must be treated early because otherwise the view deficit is no longer recoverable.
