You may listen to the word scrub you think of a single bush or matojo. The truth is that you are not completely disenchanted, but a thicket is much more than that: the word refers to the entire field whose vegetation is dominated by bushes and plants of that type.
There are different types and in very different climates. In the same way, they may have naturally appeared or the root of human action, and can also be a stable ecosystem of a certain place, or a temporal state that occurs due to effects such as, for example, a fire.
If you want to know more about Mepartles, what are, their types and faunathen accompany us in this ecology article in which we will see what its main characteristics are.
What are the bushes
As we have already mentioned, The bushes are a type of terrestrial ecosystem which includes a natural field or space in which the predominant vegetation is the Matas and bushes. They are usually also found in them different types of grass, as well as herbaceous and geophyte plants, which are the plants that pass their less favorable times in the form of a rhizome, tuber or bulb.
The bushes are characterized by having the approximate shape of a tree, but never exceed 8 meters high and in the vast majority of occasions they are of a much lower size, therefore, the landscape offered by a scrub is of a Vegetable cover at ground level, which will be more or less dense according to the type of shrub we are talking about, and splashed here and beyond shrubs, almost always low height.
Types of thickets
There are three big Types of thickets With well differentiated characteristics:
Xerophilic scrub
The term xerophil is formed by the Greek words Xero, which means dry, and edge, which means friend. Given this, it is not difficult to imagine that it is thickets that can be found in arid areas, with scarce rains and high temperatures.
The climatic conditions of these bushes remind a soft version of those of the deserts, with fresh nights, very hot days, and an absence of rainfall that can be extended for several months and, in some cases, even years.
It is usual to find spiny vegetation as cactus and low -rise shrubs, with semi -desert meadows in which little or no grass is found. Xerophilic thickets can be found in arid and semi -arid areas around the whole globe, finding some of the most important in Caatinga and Los Andes in South America, in some parts of the Mediterranean region and in some areas around the Sahara desert.
Mediterranean scrub
Also called Arbustales, Brezales or Chaparrales thickets and are found, as its main name indicates, in the Mediterranean or similar climate regions, such as California, Chile or Australia, among others.
It is a thicket in which the vegetation has also adapted to support hard and hot summers, with plants that retain water using different strategies. Low -height shrubs are dotted with other older ones such as holm oaks or oxyards, as well as aromatic plants such as broom, thyme or chamomile.
The bushes of this type are usually in forest areas or very close to these. In this other article we talk about the Mediterranean forest, its characteristics, flora and fauna.
Paramo
The moors are mountain bushes that grow at great altitude in tropical regions of America, Africa and New Guinea. They develop above the Montano forest, and extend to the limit that marks perpetual snows. They get to altitudes up to 5000 meters above sea level, and the most important and known of them is the Andean.
Unlike xerophilic and Mediterranean bushes, moors are characterized by being areas of great humidity throughout the year, in addition to being cold climates, partly especially because of the great height at which they are, although sometimes they can present high highs abruptly during the day. Astertaceous, orchid and grasses predominate in them.
Fauna of the bushes
The three types of thickets have different varieties of fauna or animals. Summarized, this is the Fauna of the bushes:
Fauna of Pรกramo type bushes
The paramics have great animal diversity, in which large mammals such as the glasses, the puma or the deer with white tail can be found, among more small such as the fox of the moor (such as the photo below), the rabbit or the mountain dog. Among the birds, the hummingbird, the duck and the condor stand out.
Fauna of the Xerophilic Matorrales
Xerophilic bushes are also the home of a large number of animals, especially reptiles and insects such as snakes, iguanas, a variety of lizards, scorpions and bees. Birds such as the Roadrunner, the desert carpenter bird or the techolote, in addition to mammals such as bats and kangaroo rats can also be found.
Mediterranean thicket animals
The Mediterranean scrub presents a fauna in which mammals such as foxes, mountain goats, rabbits and deer can be found, in addition to rapture birds such as the Iberian imperial eagle. There are a lot of small bird birds such as pigeons, turtled and ducks, and mosquitoes such as storks and herons. Although there are very few Iberian lins in freedom, they are typical of this bioma, and the Iberian wolf is one of its greatest carnivores.
