Aetomylaeus bovinus

These exceptional videos were taken on 17 September 2026, at 6.20pm and 7.03pm, by the camera positioned 18 meters deep in the marine protected area of Bergeggi, in the province of Savona. They show the passage of a sea cow (Aetomylaeus bovinus), a species present in the Mediterranean but very rare and classified by the IUCN as critically endangered.
An invisible giant: the second sighting since 2018
Aetomylaeus bovinus it is a cartilaginous fish that populates coastal environments up to 150 meters deep, and can reach considerable dimensions (over 2 meters). Before this sighting, the camera of the marine protected area of Bergeggi, in operation since 2018, had only recorded it once.
A window open 24 hours a day on the marine world
More often, this window onto the underwater world features the most characteristic fish, such as damsels, groupers and sea bream, but also predators such as tuna and barracuda and sometimes bottlenose dolphins, coastal dolphins.
