CFC or chlorofluorocarbonados are a group of gases that are used in many applications, mainly in the cooling industry and providing them with aerosols. They are also present in thermal insulators. They are derived from saturated hydrocarbons obtained by replacing hydrogen atoms with basically chlorine, fluorine and carbon atoms.
They are the main culprits of the reduction of the ozone layer and have the survival capacity in the atmosphere of 50 to 100 years. Over the years they reach the stratosphere where they are dissociated by ultraviolate radiation, releasing the chlorine of its composition, which affects and destroys the ozone layer progressively. What CFCs are used for
They have adequate physical and chemical properties to be used in different applications, such as low boiling points, low viscosity and surface tension and high chemical stability. Therefore, they are used in the fridge industry, air conditioners, domestic refrigerators, expanded plastics (polyurethane and polyethylene) and in aerosol products such as cosmetics, food, paintings and insecticides, in addition to using them in solvents for the cleaning of electronic components.
To reduce this environmental impact, there is nothing more than minimizing the use of CFC’s using other products that do not contain harmful compounds For the ozone layer, such like HFC and HCFC.
