From 1 July 2025 the friendly finding can be completed online, making the management of road accidents faster and without errors.
In the drawer of our cars, the CAI module – the one for friendly observation – has been a constant and reassuring presence for decades. But from 1 July 2025 there is a novelty: the “CID” can be completed via the app or website, making the management of road accidents faster and classes.
Who is involved in a accident will be able to communicate directly online plaque, place, date and dynamic of the same, also attaching photos of the damage. For the document to have legal value, however, one will be necessary advanced electronic signatureobtainable through Spid or electronic identity card. The transition will not be immediate, but gradual: in fact, the companies will have to guarantee the double option, digital and paper, at least until April 2026, so as not to exclude those who are less familiar with smartphones and technologies.
The requirements. Digital Cai works in a very similar way to the paper version, but with more advanced tools. The conditions for using it are precise: they must be involved At most two vehiclesnon the must be seriously injured And drivers have to agree on the dynamics: it is no coincidence that the Costation is “friendly”.
Once these requirements have been verified, the official app of your insurance company opens – for example Mygenerali, Allianznow, Blue Assistance – and you access the “Left” or “Digital Cai” section, inserting i personal data of the drivers, those of the cars, of the policies, the hour and the place of the accident.
How it works. The system also offers guided cases for Describe the dynamics (for example: “vehicle x changed lane”) and allows you to draw a simplified scheme. You can add photos directly from the mobile phone, to document damage and the position of the cars. Finally, both drivers must Sign digitally, activating the advanced electronic signature (FEA)requirement necessary for the form to be legally valid. The document is finally sent to their respective insurance companies, without additional steps.
The advantages. Digitizing the CAI means making the entire process faster, more precise and safe. We avoid compilation errors or missing signatures, the use of paper is reduced and yes speeds up the sending of complaints. But the most important advantage concerns the fraud prevention: In 2024, according to the data collected by Facile.it, the insurance scams related to road claims caused damage above 620 million euros.
Thanks to the automatic processing of data and the support of artificial intelligence, companies can today identify inconsistencies in the modules – such as recurring errors, suspicious dynamics or non -consistent photographs – and intervene promptly.
In addition, having digital documentation makes storage and consultation easier, even at a distance. It is the same approach already adopted for other automobile documents, such as the certificate of electronic property and the digital license, all examples of how bureaucracy can become more streamlined thanks to technology.
Better to prepare. To be ready to use digital CAI in the event of an accident, it is advisable download the app in advance of your insurance company and verify that all personal and policy data are correctly entered. In a moment of tension such as the one following a accident, dispose of the installed app avoids delays or complications. If the other driver does not use the same app, it is not a problem: each party can complete their declaration and send it independently, and the managers will then be able to integrate the two versions.
Each insurance has its own app. It should be clarified that there is, at least for now, a single national portal for digital CAI: Each group manages its own system independentlyeven if the content of the module remains standardized.
In addition, the operating passages – from access to the SINISTRI section up to the signature and sending – may vary slightly from company to company, because the IVASS (the Insurance Supervisory Institute) does not impose a unique schemebut only respect for fundamental information. In any case, even if the paper will remain valid for a while, better to get used to the digital version.
